Nokia 9 PureView clears FCC, confirms penta-camera design

All appears set for the official unveiling of the Nokia 9. The device alongside the Nokia 1 plus was earlier today found on Google play store among the list of supported devices, and now, it has cleared one more pre-release hurdles in preparation for its unveiling in Barcelona in the coming week.

The device has been certified by the US FCC, but as it is the case with FCC, not so much was revealed, but there are a few things we can take home. First, the device will actually be marketed as the Nokia 9 PureView and will be available in both Single-SIM (TA1082) and two Dual-SIM (TA-1087, TA-1094) variants. The listing further reveals that the TA-1094 and the TA-1087 models will be exclusive to China and Taiwan respectively.  Taiwan probably will be the only market that will get the device as an Android One smartphone.

Aside from confirming the device will launch with a plethora of rear cameras, the FCC documents also reveals that one of the variants with the TA-1087 model number will sport GSM bands 850 and 1900, WCDMA bands II, IV, and V, as well as FDD-LTE bands 2, 4, 5, 7, 12, 13, 17, and 66. Wi-Fi 802.11 a/g/n/ac and Bluetooth connectivity.

The Nokia 9 PureView, when announced, will be HMD’s most advanced smartphones, although prevaling leaks suggest the device won’t have all it requires to stand against the like of the Galaxy S10, and a few other flagships from rival companies.

Nokia 9 PureView’s First Case Render Leaks Online

Albeit it looked quite improbable around a month back, the upcoming Nokia 9 PureView with its penta-camera setup is slowly becoming more and more real.

The latest leak does indeed show a render of the case for the handset. If you’ve never seen what a case with 5 camera holes looks like, then check out the image below.

As can you see in the image above, the render that’s supposedly designed for the next camera-centric Nokia 9 PureView appears to actually sport 7 holes, 5 dedicated to the image sensors, 1 for the flash and a 7th for an undisclosed sensor.

While this entire camera design looks too crazy even for 2019, HMD, thus Nokia, acquired the PureView brand from Microsoft a couple months back. PureView phones were known for their amazing camera setup for the times, so Nokia bringing another incredible camera phone isn’t that far fetched.

Either way, Nokia is hosting a conference in Dubai on December 5th where we might learn more about the handset.

What do you guys think? Do you believe these leaks? Let us know down below!

Google ведёт переговоры о покупке бортовой широкополосной системы Nokia. Об этом пишет Bloomberg.

Nokia 9 cases appear once again hinting a curved display

The Nokia 9 is expected to be one of the main attractions in the booth of Nokia at the upcoming MWC. Unsurprisingly, it is a flagship device which has been the staple of the rumour mill since last year. The most recent sighting of the device was in the hands of an HMD official. That was quite blurry and almost useless. The handset has already passed the FCC way back in December. Here we take a look at newfound cases of the handset.

As has so often been rumoured, the Nokia 9 is supposed to come with a curved display. That is indeed very rare in the flagship segment as Samsung currently rules the roost with the Galaxy S8. The cases clearly emphasize that design aspect of the phone as they have very small corners. The cases also have cutouts for a dual camera on the back of the device and for a fingerprint sensor. The Nokia 9 is also rumoured to come with dual selfie cameras.

As for the rumoured specs, we draw our information from its FCC listing. Nokia 9 sports a 5.5-inch OLED display sourced from LG, as per info. Under the hood, the Nokia 9 houses last year’s Snapdragon 835 chip which might be a letdown. The FCC listing showed Android Oreo on board the device backed by a 3,250mAh battery.

After the FCC listing, the Nokia 9 has been rumoured to launch many times but hasn’t yet gone public. We reckon it will surely break cover at the upcoming Mobile World Congress.

A new phone with the label of HMD Global’s Nokia has been certified by the Federal Communications Commission in the US. The certification is an indication that the said device might drop soon, likely making its debut later at the MWC in Barcelona alongside the Nokia 9 and a couple of other Nokia phones from HMD Global.

A report on Nokiamobs indicates that a never seen before HMD branded Nokia phone with model number NOKIA TA-1048 has passed through the FCC. The device is labeled as a GSM/WCDMA/LTE Mobile Phone, an indication that it could be a 4G feature phone and not a smartphone.

We’re not a 100% certain on the specifics of the device, but there are indications that it might be the global variant of the Nokia TA-1047 which was earlier certified by Bluetooth SIG and the FCC.

Other than been a GSM/WCDMA/LTE Mobile Phone, the FCC documents revealed that the NOKIA TA-1048 will come with Dual-SIM (uses MicroSIM) support, as well as a dedicated slot for MicroSD card.

A couple of weeks back, Nokia announced the 4G version of the iconic Nokia 3310 in China but has not detail its global rollout plan, so It’s possible we will see it announced for other markets at MWC 2018 as the NOKIA TA-1048.

HMD Global still hasn't released the kernel sources for the Nokia 8

HMD Global, the exclusive manufacturer of Nokia-branded phones, has done a pretty good job of keeping their devices up-to-date. Late last month, for instance, the company opened up the Android 8.1 beta for the Nokia 8. But this doesn't change the fact that it's been 136 days since HMD's Chief Product Officer, Juho Sarvikas, tweeted that the kernel source code for the Nokia 8 would be shared with the open-source community — and it still hasn't happened.

On September 20th, Sarvikas tweeted that while HMD would not unlock the bootloader for the Nokia 8 for security reasons, it would share its kernel modifications. He called it a work in progress.

Not sharing modifications made to the Android kernel is a violation of the GNU General Public License, version 2 (GPLv2), and these violations incite a measure of rancor within the development and enthusiast community. Well-known developer Francisco Franco has certainly noticed:

It's true that without an unlockable bootloader, having the kernel source code won't mean much for custom ROM development and such. But a violation is a violation, and there's some goodwill being lost here for a company that's off to a promising start. Let's hope HMD follows Xiaomi's recent example with the Mi A1 and complies sooner rather than later.
