Xiaomi has introduced the Redmi Note 5 smartphone in China today with some distinguished features. The handset which launched in India first comes with AI Dual cameras as the highlighted feature. Most of the specs of the handset are borrowed from its Indian counterpart but there are some key differences.
Design-wise, the Redmi Note 5 is every bit the same as the Redmi Note 5 Pro. More specifically, the handset supports Qualcomm’s Quick Charge 3.0.
As for the specifications, the Redmi Note 5 features the same display as the Redmi 5 Plus. The processor in the driving seat is the Snapdragon 636 SoC assisted by an Adreno 509 GPU.

However, the primary 12MP sensor has a f/1.9 aperture whereas the Indian variant has a f/2.2 aperture. The Chinese version also has Dual PD dual-core speed focus for fast autofocus. The rear camera is packed with EIS, HDR, Burst Mode and Panorama. There’s also support for 720p slow-mo videos.
Another big change is the front camera that is of 13MP. The Indian variant has a 20MP selfie shooter. Both the front and rear shooters support AI Portrait modes.
Moreover, Chinese netizens get to play with Android 8.1 Oreo all packed with Treble support. Of course, there’s MIUI as well on top of it. Another difference is dual SIM 4G VoLTE which is not in the Indian version.

Chinese manufacturing giant, Xiaomi, recently attended the 2018 China Home Appliances and Consumer Electronics Expo (AWE) where its Yunmi sub-brand released the world’s first Artificial Intelligence (AI) range hood – Yunmi AI hood, dubbed EyeBot. The Yunmi AI hood is equipped with the latest artificial intelligence system, built-in fume identification camera, and it uses AI image recognition technology to execute a dynamic fume tracking.
As long as the fire is turned on, the hood will automatically open and the wind moves with the smoke. The smoke is large, and the small breeze is small. You don’t need to worry about cameras being damaged by soot. EyeBot’s AI smart algorithm will automatically detect and intelligently remind you to clean regularly.
At the same time, Yunmi uses the spatial noise reduction technology on the hood for the first time, and the suction can also allow you to enjoy a quiet kitchen.

Xiaomi designs not only smartphones but tons of other products including headphones as well. However, they don’t come in the box with its smartphones. So those who want to own a pair of headphones carrying this brand should look for it separately. The first over-the-ear headphones of the manufacturer were launched back in 2015. They came with a stylish look and great audio performance. Later it came in with various models and many other earbuds. Users are more familiar with them because of their lower price tags. But the real music lovers prefer over-the-ear models. Seems there is a gift for them. An early-morning tweet by company hints at upcoming Xiaomi headphones.
The current Xiaomi headphones come in minimalistic and elegant design. It uses a PU leather and protein headband making it very comfortable and soft-to-use. Thanks to them the headphones weigh 240 grams only. So they won’t cause a headache regardless how low you wear them. As for sound performance, the Xiaomi headphones sport a graphene vibration diaphragm. The latter is made of carbon atoms that feature lightweight, High hardness, superior conductivity, etc. Its selling points are the powerful bass and HiFi music support. Thanks to them the music sounds very clear, even on low and middle frequencies, which is unusual for headphones, because typically bass requires large speaker units.
Moreover, the Xiaomi headphones available on the market now come with a high-sensitive built-in noise reduction microphone. There are also special keys allows to switch between calls and listening to music easily. The enclosed aluminum alloy sound cavity guarantees good separation from ambient noise which helps immerse in music as well.
Unfortunately, we have no information about the upcoming Xiaomi headphones. But the tweet makes us think new and enhanced headphones will be announced in the nearest future.
Mobile World Congres 2018 will officially begin in Barcelona, Spain on February 26th. The event is expected to witness products launches from giants like Samsung, LG, Xiaomi, HMD Global and more. Sony will be live at the mobile show, as it has confirmed with the release of a Video teaser hinting at its product lineup for the MWC.
As usual, this teaser reveals nothing at first sight, but it did reveal that Sony will be holding its MWC 2018 Press briefing just a day after Samsung and HMD Global might have unwrapped the Galaxy S9 and Nokia 9.
A couple of days back, it came to public knowledge that Sony wrote a letter to FCC (Federal Communications Commission) requesting the dismissal of one of the approvals given to some of its devices, probably to reflect modern day reality. If the request is given appropriate attention, then there is every tendency that Sony’s phones that will debut at the MWC 2018 might not reflect the design change as the time frame is considered too short to effect such.
Recent reports have it that the company plans to bring the Xperia XZ2, XZ2 pro, as well as the Xperia XZ2 compact, will all be unveiled at the MWC 2018. These devices look set to a 4K edge-to-edge display, dual-lens rear camera, flagship SD 845 SoC and more.
Not only the Samsung Galaxy S9/S9+ will be in the spotlight at the MWC 2018 but two (or even more) Xiaomi handsets are going to make a huge stir. We know the first Snapdragon 845-powered smartphones in face of the Galaxy S9 and Xiaomi Mi 7 are going to hit the market at the same time. And maybe the South Korean manufacturer will start selling its models a bit later than the Chinese Company. But if everything goes according to the plan, Xiaomi should grab more attention. That’s not a secret the Xiaomi Mi MIX 2S will be at the event as well. And if we have heard too much about the Samsung S9 and already learned how it will look, there is no certainty concerning the appearance of the Mi MIX 2S. Another poster made by a film maker manufacturer reveals the actual look of the upcoming flagship. But it also confuses.
According to the spotted photo, the Xiaomi Mi MIX 2S should come with an almost zero forehead and narrower bezels. The chin is also narrowed. But it’s there, which simply means there should be placed some sensors. Though the photo above doesn’t showcase whether the front camera is placed on the chin or not, we are sure the only reason it’s been left there is the selfie-camera. Xiaomi has been using innovative technologies for hiding the proximity sensor and the speaker under the display. So the chin is left only for the camera. Seems the manufacturer couldn’t create anything, and it will be placing the camera sensor on the chin.
But if this photo is real and the forthcoming Xiaomi Mi MIX 2S will use such a design, the previous leak should be considered as fake. If you remember, it showed the front camera is placed on the very right upper corner.
Among the rumors that insist on a possible launch during this Mobile World Congress 2018, earlier today we had another leak regarding the Xiaomi Mi 7, that will surely put a smile on your face – if you’re a Xiaomi fan that is.
According to a recent leaked screenshot that presumably belongs to the most awaited model, the device is going to be equipped with 8GB of RAM and a massive 4480 mAh battery (!) – which is quite a bump up when compared to the 4/6GB RAM and the 3350 mAh power cell of its Mi6s predecessor.
The screenshot also reveals that the device will be equipped with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon chipset, along with 128GB of internal storage, a dual camera setup on its back (16MP+16MP), a 5,6 inch display with 18:9 ratio and FullHD+ resolution. If you have a better look at the screenshot, then you might spot that the device runs on MIUI 8.1.30x, which means the build is from January 30, 2018 – a quite recent build!
We urge you to stay calm regarding this leak, as recent rumors also suggest that Xiaomi might launch the Mi Mix 2S first and the Mi 7 in the near future. Who knows?
The last time we covered LineageOS, the project had started supporting seven new phones, including the Xperia Z5 Compact and LG K10. Since then, several additional devices have been added to the official build roster. These include the Sony Xperia Z5, Samsung Galaxy S6, and Redmi 3S/3X.
Before we get to the new devices, there were a few developments in the LineageOS community worth mentioning. Official builds for the HTC One M9 were added back in early January, but only one version (dated January 10) was uploaded. The ROM caused hardware-encrypted One M9s to be unbootable, since only software encryption was supported. The maintainer pulled support a few days later, and as of the time of writing, it's unclear if builds will resume.
On a similar note, LineageOS has also discontinued builds for the ASUS ZenFone 2. Lineage previously supported both the 1080p (Z00A) and 720p (Z008) models, and the final release was uploaded on January 27. The maintainer said on XDA, "I'm calling it quits on these devices. My touchscreen on my last zf2 gave out and I'm done wasting money repairing these things. [...] I wanted to take a moment here to thank all of those who have participated here, supported my work and the work of crpalmer early on."
And now, without further ado, here are the newly-supported LineageOS devices:
- Sony Xperia Z5 (sumire)
- Samsung Galaxy S6 SM-G920F (zerofltexx)
- Samsung Galaxy S5 Sport SM-G860P (kltesprsports)
- ZTE Axon 7 Mini (tulip)
- Xiaomi Redmi 3S/3X (land)
Most of these devices have been around for a few years, so if you own one of these phones already, maybe LineageOS can extend its usefulness for a while longer.
